Description

Connecting rod bolt 12.9 strength class

Connecting rod bolts are stretch bolts and should only be used once to avoid the risk of engine damage.
When assembling the connecting rods, pay attention to the oil injection holes! These should point to the pressure-loaded side of the cylinder.
In the direction of travel, the left oil injection hole points downwards (pulley side)
the right oil injection hole points upwards (flywheel side).
When tightening the connecting rod bolts, note that the upper and lower parts of the connecting rod
cannot be shifted sideways against each other.
It is advisable to use a feeler gauge (0.15-0.25mm) that corresponds to the axial play when tightening Insert
between connecting rod and crankshaft.
See fourth picture in the article!
This is important because the connecting rod bolts have a smaller diameter than the holes in the connecting rod cap and therefore the connecting rod cap does not center itself automatically.
After tightening the screws with about 15 Newton meters, the connecting rod must be tapped sideways with a hammer at the point where the bearing shell is fixed
be attached so that the bearing shells lie well in their fixing grooves and are centered with the connecting rod halves.
After tighten the connecting rod bolts (30 Newton meters), the connecting rod must glide under its own weight.
